One of the yōkai in Paranormasight is absolutely my favourite Japanese fable: the giant foot that bursts through the mansion ceiling and demands to be washed: https://yokai.com/ashiaraiyashiki/

I'm not entirely sure why this is on the front page of HN but I can +1 Paranormasight after having played it shortly after it released. I thought the game was a treat :)

I never see anybody talking about it, so maybe it's worth it as entertainment tip. Yeah, the game is pretty good and seems to go under most peoples radar. Personally prefer this type of links to the next new revolutionary Javascript framework.

There are way too many visual novels out there, and this is one of them.

From the description in the article, it sounds more like what you would have called an "adventure game" ~30 years ago. And going by this quote:

> In practice, you will end up dying quite a few times until you find out the nature of the curse that ends up killing you, which is a hint on how you can avoid its effects.

...it seems to be more in the tradition of the Sierra adventures (try to cross street -> get hit by a car).

This is more of a game than the others. At least it is way more interactive.

Some gems like 428 aside, I'm generally not a fan of "pure" VNs (the style is often much too verbose), but VN/puzzle hybrid games like Ace Attorney, 999/VLR or Ghost Trick have slowly established themselves this past decade as one of my favorite genres.
